problem after new UB pump!
 

I changed my troublesome UB pump on my CDTi a few days ago, would have been much easier to do if they had given us a few more inches of pipe underneath. Instead it took over an hour just to get battery/tray out!!

Anyway, after replacing the pump (one from Mgrs and slightly more louder than the old one) the car wont fire up immediately on first turn of the key as it has done since I've had it. i can hear the pump working but simply wont fire straight away. I now have to turn on ignition, leave for 20-30s, turn off, repeat 3 or 4 times before it will fire up. After that, no problems and even starts again if I turn it off. It seems as if I'm losing fuel pressure over time but I only removed the fuel pipes top and bottom of pump, nothing else.

The only slight change was replacing bottom pump hose clip with a sprung version as the one that came off was one of those crimped on ones. Could this be causing a drop in pressure? cant see any fuel leaks anywhere. I am planning to also replace the intank pump setup with the one from my scrapper which the owner said was new, i dont think mine has worked for a while. Im guessing this will help take workload off UB one! Thanks for reading. :)

Yes I would double check the jubilee clip/spring clip, the old crimped clips can be re-used and are the best to use, if not then use a jubilee clip the straight through ones with captive nut.

It could also be a weak pump from the start, I would only ever fit a pierburg UBP even a good used one is better than these after market pumps.

Its a shame that the pierburg UBP that I took off my scrapper, got dropped just a few inches onto one end, whilst i was using it to empty the fuel tank of the scrapper and it then stopped working permanently. Miffed is an understatement!! :mad:

Mine has become noisy, I've got a new Pierburg on order. It could be that it's one of those things that only a genuine will do, a bit like a Bosch maf. I have high hopes for it, it's costing 111 quid, but with the car on 85k I won't be selling soon.

I just hope the apparent pressure loss is caused by the bottom hose rather than the new pump not being strong enough. It was still £70ish so spending another ton of another so soon would send the missus loopy. (Every week i get - "i think its time for you to look for another car"!!) :(

Did it come with a clear plastic plug on the inlet side? If so and you didn't spot it then it is in the pipe partially blocking the fuel flow and could cause the problem you have.
