new owner

Hi, I have just got an 2.0 diesel Connoisseur mines an 53 reg, maroon in colour, So far it seems to be a very sound car, theres the normal scratches etc, but no bad dents, or corrosion, there are two issues with it though,
1 Handbrake, is very poor, i've already ordered an Mini front cable with the compensator, so that should fix that, i will probably look at pads also as their advised as being low,
RADIO Is dead, This car has the built in highline gps unit and an Arial amplifier in the boot, the amplifier is unplugged, but there are two connectors off the loom for it, one blue, one grey, would this be why its dead? does the feed for the radio come via the amplifier? or should i look at the radio fuse on the unit, Everything else seems to work fine, also i need a space saver, the previous owner has fitted the larger MGZR Wheels, so i don't expect the standard spare will be any use,

The highline system has three units in the boot, the CD drive / satnav computer, which is on the offside rear wing, in the spare wheel well, adjacent to the rear bumper is the radio module and the video module, which if there has been water ingress into the spare wheel area may have stopped working - have read of the posts in the I.C.E. section of the forum, plenty of posts in there addressing the issues with the Highline system

Thanks, I have had a look today, plugged in the radio module and the fan kicked in, so i'massuming its getting power, the sat nav seems to be working also i checked the fuse on the video unit, and it was ok,i checked the fuse in the fuse box, that was sound, i havn't pulled the radio out yet does it have a separate fuse, where the multi plug is?

RE.---Hand brake.---Usually it's the inside of the drums that are rusted and the friction between the shoes and drum is very poor.--Can sometimes be improved by, on the odd occasion, driving slowly with the handbrake partly on.--Failing that, you might need new discs and shoes.---:eek:

Re the Handbrake,

They are notorious form under performance, There is a very good "How to" if you do a search. It will describe the correct way to adjust said H/B.

It is important to follow it step by step.;)

Make sure the handbrake shoes are are the correct spec ie TRW. I struggled with a poor handbrake for years barely scraping a handbrake MOT pass until thanks to Jules recommendation , I binned the Partco shoes. Now I nearly get thrown through the windscreen at three clicks ! I've now got them on both my cars along with the compensator mod and they both have the best handbrakes of any car I've owned, :}
