Possible Breaking MG ZT-T Trophy Blue.
 

Hello Chaps.
Haven't posted here for years, so a bit rusty 🙄.
I'm almost at breaking point (no pun intended) with this car, and I may break it as it's in such good condition.

If anyone here needs items from a 2004 CDTi in Trophy Blue, I would rather the parts went to keep another classic on the road.

All body parts / interior / what have you as the car is complete, just running rough.

Body panels and interior are very, very good.

Any interest? I gather parts are hard to source...

My suggestions would be either:

If you still want to keep the car, see if the forum can help you get it back running right.

Advertise it for sale as spares or repairs either on here (£10 subs) or alike.

Breaking the car may get you more financially but can be quite a bit of hassle.

Hi Guys.
Basically, despite appearing to be in very nice condition, it's starting running like cr*p.
The car drove well for a few months, but since Saturday's trip to the coast, I barely made it back home.
The engine lacks power or throttle response, smoke pours out the back when trying to accelerate and the revs are hunting when driving although it idles OK.
I also detect a whistling sound, which could be an intake leak, but nothing obvious to the naked eye.

I don't like the idea of breaking, but can't afford a money pit either. I only considered splitting or letting her go for parts to a fellow classic enthusiast.

If this running issue is cheap and simple, then fine. Experience tells me that very little falls into that category!

Hi,hopefully it could be a simple fix,to me it seems like a leak from the intercooler hose,mine had the same symptoms,it was due the the o rings swelling and popping out the bottom of the hose at the joint with the plastic elbow.You can also tell if there is a residue of oil in that area,it's right down the bottom on the right side as you are facing the engine near the radiator area.Regards Ry....

That has to be worth a few minutes investigating although I am somewhat ignorant of the diesel engine.
I'll just examine the general area and see....

Worthwhile taking a photo of the bottom of the intercooler hose and post it on here.

Ry; thank you for that excellent diagnosis.
Possibly not exactly what you meant, but most definitely the right ballpark 😊.

It turns out that ( please excuse the non-tech terms ) a large hose adjacent to the bottom radiator hose, had completely come undone and was sucking in air just above the undertray.

As this cannot be controlled / governed, I assumed my problem was at hand....

Re-connected hose, re-fitted tray and expansion tank, started car - runs like it did before. I couldn't believe it could be that simple!

All of which just leaves the question - how the hell did a 3" hose loosen it's jubilee clip and fly off - just like that?

She lives another day, or a few hundred at least 😳.
