Painting trailing arms
 

On my project car, I've removed the rear trailing arms as part of the rear suspension overhaul. They're completely stripped apart from the ABS sensor.

I wanted to tidy them up, so wire brushed and lightly shot blasted them, protecting the sensor.Bought Hammerite direct to rust, and painted them up. After a week left to dry, the stuff peels off, it's useless.:mad:

Anyone have better recommendations please?:o

I have used POR15 and its great!

The under boxes on my Airstream Motorhome (the only thin steel parts on the MH!) and back of chrome bumpers on my P5 just to name a couple.

In the 10 years or so of using POR15 it has never peeled or rust reappeared.

POR15 is good - I also swear by Dinitrol's products.

I would use Dinitrol metallic spray dries almost immediately and gives brown dry waxy coating which doesn't come off, I also swear by Dinitrolor and BiltHamber products, for corrosion protection

That's strange, I've used Hammerite on the trailing arms and it has been fine.

Could it be a faulty batch of paint, or have you been using silicone spray nearby?

It does take some time to fully cure though - think it mentions that on the tin.

POR 15 warning, do not and I mean do not get any paint on the lid where it seals to the tin. You will not get the lid off once it dries, trust me I know.
I ended up pouring mine into a used sauce jar, putting cling film over the top and then screwing the jar lid back on.
por 15 is recommended on other sites and I too have used it.

Hammerite, mmm very disappointing too when I used it

I was very surprised at the Hammerite Mike. I was careful to clean the surface down, and the first arm was left for over 2 weeks. No difference when I tested both. It peeled off really easily. I'm no pro at painting, so maybe it was my error. :( Won't be recommending though. :(
