Whoop, whoop, front end noise

Driving home this evening, intermittent. 'Whoop, whoop' noise from front end. No loss of power at all, no missing. Drives perfectly. The fact that it comes and goes is odd. Remained very noticeable at steady 50mph, accelerate and it went, then will return randomly. Can just about 'feel' it in the steering but not too pronounced at all. Not sure what else to say but a bit disconcerting. Because of performance it does not sound like engine. Could be wrong etc. Basically where should I start looking ?

Thank in anticipation, John

Sounds like the aircon "whale song" to me.

Next time it happens, press the econ button on the aircon panel ;)

Impressive. Only 9 posts since 2008. Your car must have been very reliable.

Is it a petrol or diesel ??? Your---About me--- doesn't say.

I'd join Brian in guessing at a heating fault. Was the air-con in action in your car on your way home ??

As Brian said, aircon coming on. What was the outside temperature? If it was 5 deg or below, fbh turning on.

Is the undertray secure ? I’ve attended a few jobs where the member has complained about a whooping knocking sound from the front of the car over certain speeds. On arrival I’ve found that the air was getting under the front of the insecure undertray and making it act like a wobble board !

Also check brake air ducts (item14) as these can come loose:-

More likely to be air con related though.

Check the slow speed on the fan, do this by the demist test, if it is ok then get your A/C gas checked.

Congratulations on having what appears to be a very reliable car!
Whooping noises most closely likened to whalesong noises are usually due to an overheating aircon system, usually this is because of slow speed fan failure.
Pressing in the Econ button on the heater panel should stop it if that is what it is. The fix is to repair the fan slow speed.
