Brake fault light comes on then goes off

I know there are many threads here but they seem to relate to the light staying on - but mine doesn't. On starting up I get the Brake Fault light comes on but after 2 seconds goes out and remains out till I start up again - usually but not always. Is this likely to be just say the sensor needs cleaning? (please say yes.)

Its a sign of low battery voltage, mine does it if I use the fuel burner for too long :duh:

I never use the handbrake when parking up my diesel Connie, preferring to use park so on start up there should be no red handbrake warning light. However after a cold frosty night when starting up from cold I also get the light coming on followed by the brake failure warning, but they disappear around a second later never to return the rest of the day. This fault only occurs in the winter months and a friend of mine who owns a 54 reg diesel reports the same issue !

Perhaps it's a case of '' they all do that Sir '' :shrug: :}

A large 'brake fault' on the IPK screen Stefan.

A large 'brake fault' on the IPK screen
I get this sometimes on the first start of the day..only last a few seconds and i always thought it was due to low brake vacuum .
I am in the habit of starting with my foot on the brake so maybe using up any residual vacuum before the engine fires up ?

mine does this (the message centre warning), with it only happening during damp wet weather, I have put mine down to corrosion on the contacts. After heavy rain in the summer, or damp cold weather in the autumn.

It did disappear for a year or two when I cleaned the light bulb holders, when I had an issue with one of the tail lights showing a failure even with known good bulbs.
The holders looked fine, but one track had corrosion on it, I cleaned everything to be sure. It did come back on last summer (after a heavy shower) and in the middle of November (MOT was due, which is why I noticed it). It has behaved itself since, so with no time, and cold weather, I have not investigated this yet.

My tourer (03 CDTI 75) briefly shows the brake warning message every time when restarted after a short period (after refuelling or shopping etc).
It has never displayed it on a first start of the day or after standing for a few hours or more, but will always on a hot restart.
I was advised it was a known IPK glitch on a certain chassis range, which my car falls within.
My ZT-T 190 however has never shown it in all the time I've owned it.

So of the kindly seven replies I have six suggested solutions!
I also get Traction Control warning appear, first, but both go off after two seconds. Deep reading of the Forum suggests possible cleaning of the modulator (?) under the battery tray - but I suppose like most/all things on these cars it's a question of slow checking of everything and hoping one will solve them both.
Otherwise it's a long distant trek to a T4 specialist.
Are either of these likely to be MOT failures? (Traction Control certainly works for sure and as far as I know the brakes do as well: fluid is topped up)

That warning light will come on for about 3 seconds as a bulb check, when ever the ignition is set to II or when you start the car.

If it remains on 5 seconds or more after releasing handbrake, it could mean the handbrake switch is faulty, or the brake fluid is low, so check the fluid first, then think about checking the handbrake switch, i recently sent out one to a member because his switch was playing up.
