How to fit a front door finisher
I put this job off for 5 months because I wasn't sure of how all of the bits fitted together. When I finally did it I realised it is really easy and changed both finishers in less than a hour. I thought the following pictures might help to explain things a bit.

Be careful not to drop inside door. http://i44.tinypic.com/e1arnp.jpg Start to pull finisher away from door. http://i39.tinypic.com/4k7b6o.jpg Seal may be stuck firm inside channel so use a screwdriver to ease it out. http://i42.tinypic.com/2zycttw.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/v58s5k.jpg Pull remainder out by hand. http://i43.tinypic.com/2jafg5e.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/ephhsk.jpg Pull finisher out, up and away from door. http://i44.tinypic.com/339sjrl.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/e85x76.jpg Corrosion. http://i39.tinypic.com/bijbqc.jpg New part from Rimmers (less than £20!). Also, is less than half the weight of the original and appears to be aluminium. http://i40.tinypic.com/2uicf8h.jpg Small amount of washing up liquid in the channel. http://i40.tinypic.com/2gy7qzt.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/2pt5u6r.jpg Place the seal in the channel and start to ease the finisher down into the door. http://i41.tinypic.com/29y08ie.jpg Be careful of catching the lip of the waist seal as you push the finisher down. http://i43.tinypic.com/j0ejnl.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/rj19mo.jpg Make sure the rear edge is over the edge of the door. http://i40.tinypic.com/2a78k1j.jpg Hold finisher in place and refit 3 screws. I placed the screw in the screwdriver and in one swift motion aimed for the hole. Tricky but no screws lost in door this way. http://i39.tinypic.com/zxqyxs.jpg Run thumb along seal to refit. http://i40.tinypic.com/14sd4rm.jpg Fitted finisher at bottom. http://i40.tinypic.com/1z1wp02.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/w2k842.jpg Slightly different finish in some lights but I haven't tried to Tcut 13 years of muck off the original rear finisher yet. Great thread! my front passenger side one has rusted at one point and now has a hole in it so had been wondering how to repair this. Is it just as east to replace the back door one as it would be worth changing front and back so that they match in colour.

I had the same problem on the front passenger door, corrosion had set in. The problem seems to be where the two pieces are welded together.

Yep, very nice how to.
I usually find the O/S front starts to rust first & I don't know about now but they were difficult to get hold of. The other three were/are readily available. Have done quite a few now (mostly O/S fronts !) |
No need for t-cut. I use Autoglym bumper care. Mine look new on a 2002 model.
