How I love 15 inch wheels!

My last Rover 75 had 15 inch Crowns and had a lovely magic carpet ride.

My current one, for the last 4 years, has 16 inch Unions fitted.
I probably slightly prefer the look of them, but no big deal. That is until I went to buy some tyres – the 215/55 R16s are really expensive compared to the 195/65 R15s. :shrug:

I also now have a Volvo V70 which has 15 inch wheels, with the same tyre size as the Rover 75 with 15 inch wheels.

I like the Continental Premium Contact 5s fitted to the Rover so I had the same put on the Volvo yesterday. I bought a pair of 195/65 R15s for £107.78, working out at £53.89 per tyre.
Same tyre, same place but for the Rover in a 215/55 R16 size, come out at £213.98 or £106.99 per tyre. :eek:

They are about the same circumference with a bigger hole in the middle, so I think they should be cheaper. :D

Anyone with 15 inch wheels? I would stay with them. ;) :}

My Toledo that I have as a taxi has 215 45 16 tyres and I can get tyres for that for £80 for the pair, I got 5 225 45 18 for £225 last year.

Absolutely agree with Dorset Bob's findings. I have also just replaced 16" Unions with 15" Crowns and the improvement in ride is noticeable. The lower cost is a bonus.

I found that even the 17 inch Serpents that I had were cheaper for tyres than the 16s. I think it's just because the 16s are just such a peculiar size.

For me it's 15inch for price and ride or 18inch on my ZT (11 spokes) for look and handling
All the rest I'm no so keen
15inch crowns seem to give a super smooth ride.

there is a noticeable difference in the comfort between the 15's and 16's but I thought I was the only one who could feel it cos I'm a princess.......

I had been thinking of changing the crowns for something else, but after reading this I'll stick with them. Comfort is more important than looks to me. :}

I have just changed my 17 inch RS alloys for 16 Rover forks as the potholes were costing me money .

Huge difference in ride .

Welcome back Anna.:D

Crowns for me. Had 12 years on them in my manual then bought an auto with meteors which felt like it had flat tyres. Both cars on crowns now enjoying both the comfort and the cheap tyres
