Seeking advice on a door that won't open

Hi everyone,

Well the title gives it away a bit. The latest surprise the 75 has thrown at me - the passenger door won't open from the outside or the inside. All other doors are fine, the central locking works and pulling the handle from the inside does push the wee lock knob up the way. It also wiggles it a bit... The door just won't open - it doesn't even try to open. I don't believe it is frozen as it is about 7 degrees here.

If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated!

Andrew

Well I've managed to mostly get the door card off from the inside but it still held on from the front end of the car. Unfortunately having made it this far I don't know what I'm looking at or what to do now!

After doing some research, I managed to squeeze my arm into the door with some grazed skin and push down on the metal lever on the actuator that looks a bit like a bottle opener. Sadly this did nothing so I'm left thinking the actuator itself needs replaced. I can't think how this can be achieved with the door stuck shut. :mad::mad:

This thread may help with pics to show you what to push/pull etc:-

Thank you. I am this moment excitedly telling my bored looking wife that the door is open. I reached in for the lever I mentioned before and disconnected the rod to the outer handle. Still nothing. My mate suggested I should turn the car on and try the lever again. Hey presto the door opened. It is a strange one as the outer handle would not open the door this afternoon while the car was running. I can only think it was a combination of a problem with the rod placement and the door also being superlocked...

So now I just need to reconnect the rod for the handle and get the door card back on. Fun for another day!

HI Andrew
Nice to hear you got the door open, little tip, do not fit the door right ways fix the door, screw the internal handle back in place for a day or so without the door card, test it and make sure it is all ok, then fit the door card.

Thanks for the good tip. I currently have the rod from the outer handle detached from its white plastic clip and the white plastic clip detached from the actuator... If that makes sense! Any idea if it's possible to put it all back together by feel alone with the actuator in situ? Or should I unscrew the actuator so I can move it and get better access?

A painful job, my arm is still sore and red today :D

The setting of the rod into the plastic clip is critical. You can test it with the door open by using a metal rod (screwdriver or sinilar) on the catch, to simulate the door closing (it's quite stiff to press and snaps shut so watch your fingers). The door catch can be opened by moving the lever that the rod (shown with a 4 on the pics) attaches to via the white plastic clip. If you mark the projection of the threaded part through the rod with a felt tip, you can adjust up and down until you get it spot on. A small mirror and a torch is handy for seeing the rod.

Thank you. It's safe to say I am not looking forward to this. Will have to wait for the weekend so I have daylight so I have a few days to mentally prepare!

Are the clip and rod threaded and therefore the clip will screw/rotate up and down the rod in order to adjust? As I did this all in the dark yesterday I didn't see much. :}
