Traction System Warning Light
 

Having just replaced the ABS pump on my 75 V6 to stop the ABS warning light coming on, the Traction System Warning Light is now permanently on and a laptop diagnostic system will not turn it off. Any idea why this is happening?

Hope you fitted the correct type of ABS pump with support for traction control. Did you fit one with the same part number?

An independent mechanic fitted a second-hand pump salvaged from a donor vehicle. It was identical to the faulty one that was replaced.

They are physically the same, was it the same part number?

Why was it changed?

The only way to rid the traction warning light if it is from a non-traction car is to change the vehicle ZCS coding ;)

Further to all this, if ANYONE EVER scraps a diesel with a working ABS pump, PLEASE salvage the pump. They are as rare as hen's teeth on the used market and that puts the prices through the roof. All the others are a dime a dozen.

Thanks Vitessse. I am not looking just yet, as I am not with my car at the moment. That is a good price, though. When I get there I'll clean the electrical contacts first with fingers crossed. It only faults for about 10 minutes at the first start of the day. Under bonnet heat seems to fix it.

This is very interesting. I assumed that all 75s would be fitted with Traction Control. The pump was replaced because I was continually getting both ABS and Traction Control warning lights. Diagnostics showed this was caused by a circuit failure between the pump and the FNS brake. The entire circuit (including the sensor) was replaced between the wheel and the pump with no effect. The pump was very badly corroded from water ingress so we replaced it with a salvaged unit and this cured the ABS warning. However, the Traction Control warning has stayed on but there is no diagnostics information to suggest why.

Everything seems to be functioning correctly (except, presumably, the Traction Control) so I guess we fitted the non-traction ABS pump. I gather that it is possible to edit the codes to make it a non-traction car, which is fine by me, but how is this done? Does it need a T4 and, if so, where would I find someone with a T4 kit near me (West Somerset?)
