best ride quality wheels crowns or unions

which wheels give the best "comfort" ride, i think i read some where its the crowns, i have a chance of a set of unions at a fair price but already have a set of crowns that i am refubing, so which is best, looks not an issue as i like both styles, (yes i like the crowns).

Crowns will give the best ride as the tyre wall is thicker but to be honest there isn't much in it.

the tyres on the crowns are 195/65/15, not sure of the unions but they are 16" wheels

Ride quality

The smaller the wheel diameter the higher the aspect ratio of the tyre = the softer the ride.

215/55/16 on unions, I've got a set on E bay at this time

Crowns or Comets (both 15 inch) fitted with 205.65.15 will give the best comfort.

195.65.15 nearly as good for comfort and are the cheapest of any R75 size tyres to replace.

If your 75 is the daily car then I would go for 15 inch wheels at least in Winter. Last winter my saloon (205.65.15) steady as a rock, no problems.

Tourer (Unions 215.55.16) got left on the drive until snow gone. Lets just say grip not nearly as good as saloon in snow and muddy car parks at National TRust overflow parks

15" wheels should give a better ride. But they can be fitted with 195/65 or 205/65. The 205's will be slightly softer due to slightly thicker rubber, but may be slightly noisier. Also tyre quality has a huge impact on comfort.

Mick the only reason why they went to 195 is project drive. When you change them put it on 205 as that was what they were originally designed for.

Interesting post, at a variant, does anyone know the highest profile available for the 17" meteors.

At the moment I'm riding on 225/45/17's and would like to raise it next time?

unions with a decent set of quality tyres you will get the same comfort as the comets..and in my opinion, the unions visually are far more appealing.
