Any MG6 owners in the club ??
Was overtaken by one of these the other day, and it got me wondering about them :shrug:
Do any members have one and what are they like, especially the diesel ? Build quality, handbrake ;) reliability, interior finish, etc, etc....?? I know the press didn't give them the best reports when launched. I never hear anything about the model nowadays and hardly ever see them, unlike the smaller MG3 which seems quite popular. So interested to hear of any ownership experiences. Many thanks :} |
Not a diesel but club member Ricardo has an MG 6 Turbo - i was very impressed with the engine lay out - easy to fettle and more room than the MGR cars.

And I'm sat in it now reading this thread 😁

I had a 2012 MG6 TSE Magnette for 2 years (between ZTs). Mine was great, the interior was not as nice as my ZT, but nowhere near as bad as people had made out in the media. The entertainment system had the odd crash/black screen but a quick reset sorted it out.
It was very comfortable on long journeys and managed about 47Mpg on a run up to the lake district. Only downside for me was the poor headlights and the alarm unit let water in causing it to go off at random (easily fixed though). And it wasn't a ZT hence me selling it and getting another ZT.. The engine wasn't as smooth as I would have liked, but then I had come from a V6 ZT, but it had plenty of power. Everyone that had been in it was impressed and commented on how nice it was inside and out - one person even commented on how nice my new 'BMW' was....:duh: I would have one again. Especially given the option of a tuning box which makes a big difference apparently (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbBG2DZIsRw). A neighbour now owns it and they said it was the best car they had owned (they've had it for about 5 years now). |
Mg6
Had a 2012 Magnette TSE.It was a great car.Lots of toys and and very comfortable on long runs.Engine maybe bit harsh/loud.Changed HT leads as recommended and it was very lively.Sometimes clock seemed to go haywire and show wrong time but usually 24hrs later it sorted itself out!
Unfortunately at the time(approx 5 years ago)getting spares for servicing was nearly impossible.I had to source them all myself to give to my local mechanic as most suppliers had never heard of a MG6! As the car developed a mysterious clunking noise from the front end this coupled with shortage of spares and nearest MG franchise approx 55 miles away I decided to sell.Even then due to lack of awerness of the model of car no interest from anyone.Sold via We buy any car in the end.The payment I received was surprisingly good.Maybe these days with MG being better known and popular I may have hung on to it!! |
I've owed mine for around 4 years now 1.8 t gtse am I pleased with it very I was advised by my local mg dealer to stay away from the diesel so I went for the 1.8t
Reliability excellent serviced regularly Build quality excellent have to look after the underside Any rattles no Maintenance easy to work on Engine Performance better than the zed smooth and progressive no worries about overheating Parts service items same as zt Other parts can be expensive Handbrake better than the zed Comfort better than the zed Value for money excellent Clutch lighter than the zed also slave outside the bell housing The gearbox in the zed is smoother would I go back to the zed as a daily no the 6 is too nice and more practical as the boot is very spacious does it make me smile always but so do my zeds 😁😁 Sent from my VFD 730 using Tapatalk |
Thanks for the replies. Can anyone explain what the issue is with handbrake trapping your thumb ? :shrug:

It's just because there's not a lot of room around the handbrake handle when you lower it, so you could potentially catch your thumb on the centre console plastic if you are not thinking...trying to remember exactly how it looked in my head - been a while since I used it. |

Bumped into an old friend yesterday, who by coincidence is temporarily driving a petrol MG6 ! Had a look over the car and saw the handbrake button situation - I guess it's different but something you'd get used to with use :}
