Drivers Door Handle
Hi,
I removed my drivers door handle when replacing the door from a donor car. I followed the instructions Stocktake kindly posted and the excellent pictures from Arctic and all went well during removal of the handle. When reassembling I followed the instructions in reverse and all seemed good, however when I put the key in the lock it turns clockwise and anti clockwise fine but nothing happens, no engaging with the lock or disengaging. To add to the inconvenience I can't open the door from the inside, outside handle opens fine and locking with the fob is working fine. Have I missed something during the reconnecting process? Regards. John. |

Did you disturb the dog bone? if so then that could be why the key is not working either way, regarding you not being able to open the door from inside then you need to look at the cable from the handle to the lock. https://i.imgur.com/7xT0NnBl.jpg1 https://i.imgur.com/Ug65KTjl.jpg2 https://i.imgur.com/6m8fJ44l.jpg3 https://i.imgur.com/42Bk4Bhl.jpg4 did you make sure the cable was in its locked place as in these photos below, blue and orange. https://i.imgur.com/NP0DJkBl.jpg5 And is attached to the door handle by it's chocolate hook. the other end. https://i.imgur.com/7H3Up4Al.jpg6 |
Thanks Steve, I could have knocked it when I was positioning it. If it is the dog bone, what should I be looking for?
I thought it could have been the wire on the inside handle but then I thought the two may have linked to one problem. Your pictures loaded after I was typing my reply, lol. |

Then using a torch look upwards as in the photo below. https://i.imgur.com/YGgoiO4l.jpg1 At the same time with the door card of check the cable from the door handle to the lock is all where it should be. https://i.imgur.com/fgYBMYol.jpg2 so basically going over what you have done already. ;) |
Thanks Steve, I think it is the dog bone. I will let you know how I get on when I get a chance to work on it. The weather is awful just now and my garage isn't wide enough to do it under cover.

If I remember correctly it goes in further than you would expect on one side, so you've likely not aligned it or it's sat in the bottom of the door :}

Just to be pessimistic, John, did you check the state of the cable in the 'banana-shaped coffin'? That cable transfers the rotation of the door key to the 'dog bone'. If it has failed, due - I judge - to fatigue, it will need replacing. There is a detailed How To here: https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=303470

Managed to get out this evening and got the lock sorted. It was indeed the dog bone as Steve predicted. The inside handle cable had slipped of the plastic sleeve.
Thank you all for your input, it made the job a lot easier. |
