Air escape from tyre valve.
When I remove the dust cap from the valve on a wheel on my 200 coupe, air is escaping quite fast.I have tried reseating the pin with some narrow plyers,to no avail. It's a metal valve on an alloy wheel.I had this problem a few years ago and I seem to remember the tyre depot were able to extract the centre of the valve and replace it without having to remove the tyre and replace the whole valve. Can anyone confirm this can be done?
Can' t check with a tyre place as they are currently closed. |
You need a tyre valve extractor, available at most car accessory shops and a new valve core. Best way is to jack up the wheel as the air will soon escape and flatten the tyre if you can't get the new core in quick enough!

Yes - you can remove the valve core without the need for the whole of the valve to be removed. Something like this would do the job.

Thanks chaps.☺
Is the valve core standard or am I likely to be chasing the right one? May be easier to run it down to a tyre depot if there are lots of different ones. |
