Rear suspension upper wishbone corrosion
 

My MG ZT 1.8 has failed its test on corroded rear suspension arm (both sides). Can anybody avise me on the likely cost of getting these replaced and where the best place to source parts may be?

Budget for two hours per side for someone to change them (If it all goes well) Only use a garage that has done this job before.

Thank you. two hours per side doesn't seem so bad, I was expecting a much longer job and was thinking that it may be a terminal problem.

You an Stocktake have set my mind at rest, thank you, and especially for the quick reply.

The bolt at the captive nuts for the inner bolts can sometimes come away from the sub frame. This makes the job more complex as I think the rear sub frame then requires removal. I cannot recall if on the upper or lower arm I had the bolt at the hub seize in place and this required removing the trailing arm I think to have a new bush inserted.

FWIW, the upper arms are a DIY job so not too complex

Hope for the bet, expect the worst.

Any guidance on the parts to order, should I get the upper link balls with fitting kits for each side?

I would only get them as a precaution incase they were needed.

I can't recall if the bolts at both ends should be replaced but new bolts wont do any harm.

Make sure the rubber spring buffer is correctly fitted so that water can drain hrough the holes provided. If not properly aligned a puddle of water can be occur which hastens the corrosion of the upper arm.
