Odd that there's nothing about the highly labour intensive building industry..

I'm struggling to see how these folks can keep the 2m distance from one another?

There's roadworks near to us. The workers there are pretty much next to each other all day.

If they're engaged in "safety" surveys/repair then that could be "essential" (and only involve a handful of people) but otherwise????

As the numbers in the trade are huge (845K - self employed - https://www.ons.gov.uk/businessindus...t-and-earnings) it seems to defeat the instructions to stay at home & away from others.

Andy.

if a car garage can stay open, then why a 6 month allowance on no mot?

I suspect so that it's deemed not to be a necessity thus meaning someone needing their vehicle MOTd doesn't leave the house thereby either spreading or contracting the virus.
Clearly leaving garages open means that key workers such as NHS workers, transport, delivery, food and medicine retail etc can get vehicles fixed without having to wait for the likes of me who can work from home

Car garages can stay open as key workers need their cars for work. The majority have closed with a few staying open to do mot’s. With the 6 month extension I think almost all will now close. The ones still open locally are generally but not all independents and single person operations, hopefully after tomorrow things will be put in place financially and they too will close.
