Rear Backplate bolts
I am working on removing the backplate from my MG ZT.
The issue I have is that i cannot get the two top bolts removed from the backplate. The inside of the hex8 bolt is getting sheared off when I am trying to turn it. As the bolt head on the outside is not "squared off" in order to perhaps try and put a 15mm socket on it I cant get any purchase on it at all. Has anyone came across this and how did you solve the issue. many thanks Buzz |
not had this problem but a couple of possible methods/tools
Irwin bolt removers link to an example https://www.zoro.co.uk/shop/hand-too...iABEgK7vfD_BwE or something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/28346266426...CABEgLuAPD_BwE macafee2 |
they are loctited in heat them up to melt it

Hi Mac,
Many thanks for your reply, I have looked at this option prior to posting however the bolt removers do not have size 15mm which is the approximate size of the bolt head (but as stated before it is not in the shape of Hex fitting). The other option will not work due to confines of space to get onto the bolt head. |
Hi Suffolk,
I will try this option but as previously stated its very confined in space but its seems to be the best option. Only other option i can think of myself is to weld onto the bolt heads and try and turn them that way. Many thanks |
you heat up the casting at the back behind the brake plate just the half round sections on the corners.that where the bolts screw into

I used these.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Channellock...c=1&th=1&psc=1 Awesome for removing bolts where the internal drive is damaged and the outside of the head is accessible. |
