Brand new shell
Yesterday I went with a pal to look at a motorbike at a friend of his yard, loads of old cars knocking about so I had a mooch round as u do....then I spotted it!!!
A bare, brand new shell, never had anything fitted to it of a rover tomcat..the guy bought it many years ago and never did anything to it,apart from spray it in that red anti rust primer and it's been sat outside ever since..and still looks brand new now,I'd if got pics but didn't have my phone to hand at the time... |
I can see a long list of part orders from Rimmers lol

Back in the day I was working in a dairy in Shepherds Bush, and there was a Peugeot 205 in the yard along with a new shell.
It belonged to one of the fitters and as he started his Xmas break he swapped everything off the old car and onto the new shell and drove it home to Ireland to spend Xmas with his family. :} |
I did a body swap on a car a few years ago, the car all the parts came from was a rear end shunt so apart from lights and a bumper minimal damage to any parts.
I was surprised at how much work it was as the last part off had to be the first part on. I got a local glass fitter to do the glass and I believe the car is still on the road. I did spend a day rustproofing in the areas that would be hard to get too once assembled. |

Rimmers have some Brand New Bodyshells available too  Classic Mini and MGB - prices tho  their MGTF Bodyshell Kit seems more reasonable. Paul. |
The worst bit is all the little plastic clips and trim retainers, most of these would have to be new as they are prone to breakage when being removed.

Like that man said, it sounds a great idea but once you get into it you are effectively building a new car from a company that no longer exists and even if you have a donor it's still going to be very expensive. Then you probably have to think about how many unoriginal parts you use otherwise you may have to jump through lots of hoops to get it registered. |
How do you go about registering a car if you've use a brand new never registered shell? Does it have to go through the SVA or whatever it is?
