Request (for attention of mods): New Forum Section

I know we are the Rover 75 and MG ZT Owners Club, and proud of it, but a lot of us have MGR models other than the 75 and ZT.

For instance we run a Rover 25 as a second car for my fiancee and it would be awesome if I could tap into the vast collective of knowledge on here for that model.

To that end, would it be possible to create a 'Other MGR Models' section on this forum so that we could entertain such requests?

Don't know how this will go down and I'm sure I'm missing obvious reasons not to but you don't get if you don't ask!

I 'd prefer this one to stay as the 75 &ZT owners club .

We MGR owners are a dying breed. My kids wouldn't have one (not cool!) but they never say "No" to a lift, when their more acceptable motors are not working for one reason or another!:D

I personally would firmly oppose it.

This forum began from the mg-rover.org site.

Its specific to our 75 and zts. The best aspect of it is we are centrally focused on it.

Its not like there are not a million Facebook groups for the cars now days already and there are plenty of 25/45 zr/zs forums specialising in just those cars.

Activity on org died with the site being sold on and manipulated into being a money making sham. It's a shame as its a great resource, but no, with a site like that exsisting I absolutely don't feel we need a separate section in the group.

I am however always happy to see owners projects and thankfully we have the gallery section not just limited to 75 and zts.

Imo this forums value is by being brand specific, and diversifying it will not benefit it.

And as someone who's got a streetwise and a 45 I'm making that statement.

I’ve recently asked questions on here regarding my Peugeot 308 and BMW 318. Responses were polite and helpful. Both cars are now working fine thanks to solutions or pointers in the right direction.
You would think I advocate a new section for other cars but no. There is a wide range of knowledge on here in many fields and it’s to the credit of the site and its contributors that we can ask a wide range of questions whenever we like. Someone will know what to do through experience, education or acquired knowledge. That is one of its strengths.
It concentrates on a specific area of motoring history and should remain that way so as not to dilute its importance. Great forums are rare. Bad ones are plentiful. Protect what we have.

My lad is 18 - he would love an MG if the insurance wasn't so ridiculous, he has always loved the MG/Rover badge since he was tiny.

+1

If you wish to support a forum for the 200/400/25/45 please support the Rover 200/400 Owners Club - https://www.rover200.org.uk/forums/

for the Rover 200 Coupe, please support the Rover Coupe Owners Club http://forum.rover-coupe.com/

There are also clubs for the 800, and plenty for the F & TF, Metro/100 and older

I think its just the poor 600 that misses out :(

"Yes, I do blame Clarkson for such brainwashing.

Yes, I do blame Clarkson and all te Clarksom wannabees in UK motoring Journalist cicles for such misleading brainwashing ... "

A) You don't credit the new car buying population with much intelligence if you think that they could be "brainwashed" en masse by the likes of Jeremy Clarkson and his pals - a dubious premise.

B) You omit to mention that as a new car proposition, MG Rover In the latter days especially presented itself as a dated, confused, overpriced line-up that was as trendy as grannie's parlour and a long way from the aspirations of those went on to buy German. This was the real reason that Rover failed - they did not provide what the customers wanted to buy. Simple.

I only drive a VW because when I parted with my Rover 75 back in 2014, there were no new enough Rovers to be had as a replacement. It's my personal choice and preference to drive up to date cars.
I assume the use of the word 'lurker' is meant to provoke me in some way - However, if 'lurker' is the definition of someone who has posted over 80 times on the forum, then then so be it.

Who needs another new section on the forum with debate as lively as this?

Just an observation. Since posting my question on a BMW forum 11 days ago only 83 viewings have been recorded.
Not only have just 2 members replied, neither offered a solution. More importantly the solution to the problem is in my final posting ready for anyone to see and yet it has become a dead topic. It’s a cracker of a solution and can help many owners. Light traffic and apathy means it goes unnoticed.

With regards to “German quality” I’m really impressed with the 318. It’s the modern day Triumph Dolomite. To think BL had its very own 3 series and they allowed it to be killed off. Another debate beckons.
