Black Car - Advice needed !
I have a 16 month old car in Black.
I know, I know, I know. But it looked lovely when I picked it up a few weeks ago. Any advice on keeping the paintwork in good condition? It has a few stone chips, and scratches - mostly minor, but I am getting obsessed with eliminating these. Any general or specific advice in keeping on top of this. For example is the Chipex stone chip kit, costs about £40, any good. Or are there better products out there which are better for DIY use? Any help from the experienced detailers on the forum would be appreciated. Thanks |
i had a black coloured car and used turtle wax black polish about 10 quid a bottle and it brought it up a treat you also get a stone chip pencil with it .. look on e bay rgds mark

Sounds interesting. Just wondering is it ‘Water Based’ polish, meaning that it will eventually wash away, and need reapplying. Don’t mind that so much, but what is best to undertake a permanent DIY repair to stone chips? |
Scratches that don't catch your nail can be polished out, those that are deeper will need paint if you want to eliminate them altogether
You can use a mixture of paint and lacquer with a cocktail stick and touch the stone chip up but often the slight colour mismatch will be noticeable and the touched up area will be raised, you can gently sand it and machine polish back to make it look better This is a bad time of year to keep cars looking tip top and you will need to wash it more plus once the roads are gritted more stone chips will be likely If it is already in good condition keep it that way with a glaze and decent wax, poorboys black hole and collinite 476 wax are highly recommended |
