Rear wheel bearings

Hello guys, bought a pair of rear wheel bearings like these:

My question is, are they hard to replace? Do the old ones just slide out or do they need some sort of extractor? And what about fitting the new ones? Is there a press needed to fit them? Thank you.

Remove the rear disc, unstake the nut, and then remove, it's a 32mm A/F socket size.

Retrieve the large washer, then if you are lucky, the whole bearing will slide off the stub axle.

Sometimes the inboard inner bearing race will remain stuck to the stub axle, if this happens, make a cut using an angle grinder almost through the bearign race, and while you are still wearing your goggles, use a sharp cold chisel to fracture the remains of the bearing.
The stub axle in either case should be cleaned with fine (400) wet and dry paper, then very lightly greased before the new bearing is fitted.

Hope this helps

if you do both sides at the same time i'd swop the hub nuts with each other. this may allow you to restake the nut without using the original stake. Haynes recommends new nuts

I haven't done this, but are the nuts handed, with one side having a reversed thread?

Got both done in 1 hour, basically it's just the callipers and pads down, discs down, unscrew the 32 sized nut, slide the old bearings down (came down with absolutely no problems) and put the new bearing on. Thanks for all the help though

what is the story with these now? Are the bearings el' cheapo chinese made, or still originals available?

Something in my head makes me thing the OE was SKF, but I cannot remember any more since I did the last lot on another car.

If you are careful, it is perfectly possible to re-stake the nuts in the same place, making it look like its never been touched.

Having said that, new nuts are not really hard to get hold of, nor too hard to stake nicely.

Ive seen some real abomimations when it comes to stake nuts, makes you wonder if mechanics work with their eyes closed in the UK.

You can still get originals but be careful. If you want originals from rimmers call them and ask the person to go and check if they are the Made in France ones, not the made in china "Genuine" bearings.

Well my new bearings are from GSP and I restaked the nut in the original spot.
