Which Oil
Probably been asked many times before, But what is the recommended Oil for a CDT with 214678 miles on the clock?
I have done a search but get conflicting answers:shrug: IE Mineral, Semi Synthetic, Fully Synthetic ??? |
I've always used 10w/40 semi synthetic in my diesel.
|
Yes iv always used 10/40 semi synthetic in my past CDTI....
But in my mowers when i want to clean and take up th slack i use Morris's 30 dead. Im a big fan of morris's. No white metal in my old oil matey.. https://www.morrislubricants.co.uk/ |
I like to use 5/30 fully synthetic with no problems even on car with over 200k on the clock
|
I use 5W40 synthetic but with 200k+ miles 10W40 or 5W40 should be fine.
|
5w-30 full synthetic in the 2 diesels I've owned. First one had 250k on it. No leaks.

Me too. Changed every 15k miles as per the service schedule. Nothing lubricated by the oil has ever been replaced and no leaks either after 423k miles. :} |
5/30 fully synthetic for me as well in all the ones I have owned
|
I use 10/40 Castrol Magnatec. A3/B3/B4. B/4 being an update on B3.Semi Synthetic, in both the diesel and the V6.

This is the last engine oil checklist issued by MGR and shows what was regarded as the minimum quality to use.
https://i.imgur.com/Xa3rSC2.jpg The most important parameter is the ACEA specification. Those given here are now twenty years old and have been uprated to C and maybe higher). So, providing your selected oil fits the ACEA spec set out here for the Diesel engine, the rest is personal choice and the depth of your wallet. As you say, this question is perhaps the one most frequently asked and because members have personal favourite brands/types, usually leaves the asker even more confused than before. For example, Tesco branded oils bearing the appropriate ACEA codes will certainly fulfill requirements. Beyond that, it's the icing on the cake. TC |
