Rear suspension and shock replacement advice please!

Hi all, I recently have noticed that the ride on my zt was getting a bit choppy at the back end, on checking my suspension I found the trailing arm bushes worn so replaced them.

It's better, there's less noise but I still have a knock and a bit of a 'rowing boat' feel from the rear. So I'm looking at doing the rear shocks......

I can't stretch to the dmgrs ones at the moment, £95 plus fitment is a bit much as the car is a rough old boy and is just to tide me through for the minute.

I saw some rear ones from an MG6 for £45 the pair a few days back, second hand. Or I can get Rover 75 ones that are of an acceptable standard pattern manufacturer for £42 a pair.

Would the 75 ones do? Are the comfort shocks fitted to the later ZT's similar to a 75 shock? I don't want it riding like the old B6 Audi A4 SE used to, genuinely felt sick in one of those whereas the A4 sport rode nice, is this the same sort of comparison as a 75 and ZT?

Have you checked to see what's already on it? The spring & damper codes are on a label under the back seat.

According to the chart (bottom of this page), it should have left the factory with one of these:

ZT & ZT-T Standard (Early Models): GB - RPD000150
ZT & ZT-T Standard (Comfort): GC - RPD000151
ZT & ZT-T Sports: GD - RPD000530

Don't quote me but I'd say the Comfort GC code (RPD000151) is fairly similar to the 75's G code (RPD102250). I've got a 75 saloon and it's pretty solid at the back.

Thanks Blink, they are GC's.

So is the 75 G code standard fitment or firmer, just if I'm buying non genuine I'm wondering if I need to be looking for different types or just any for a 75 will do.

Here you go, LINK

Less than £60 a pair delivered, they will be better than a clapped out original, and every bit as good as any OEM-Q SAIC MG7, knock off.

In my experience there is far too much thought and emphasis put onto rear damper codes, when in reality it matters little.

The 75 G code is for all 75 saloons (except perhaps V8). The only other 75 codes are J and H but they're for tourers. In other words there is no firmer saloon option.

I think that's each Brian. A pair is £56.65 x 2 = £113.30 inc delivery.

Here's a pair of OEM Gs for £108 plus delivery - https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-RPD102250P1.

Or a pair of G Scruffy(s) for £96 plus delivery, but including top mounts & all the other gubbins - https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-RPD102250SCRUFFY.

March Madness (if there is one) might bring those prices down by 15%.

It is £60 for two items, the advert is a bit misleading. The higher price is for two sets of two. The Rimmer's scruffy ones on offer are also good value. I am in the same position and about to put saloon ones on my tourer. Many will not entertain this but it must be getter than originals on 205k miles.

So it is. Beats me why they can't be clear in these ads.
