Air Con

Can anyone recommend someone in the south Essex area (I am in Southend) or perhaps a bit further if necessary, who can look at my aircon.

Its for my car that I bought in Nov 2019, and so of course it is only recently with the good weather that I have found that the aircon is not doing what it should cool-wise. The fan comes on ok, just no significant cooling.

I'm assuming that I'd be best taking it to someone who would check it all over properly (eg leaks, compressor, etc) and not just do a re-charge and hope for the best.

Ideas appreciated.

You could try British Legends in Southend. It's probably the condenser needs replacing as the radiator fins will be crumbling away if it has never been changed and not cooling properly, assuming all is well elsewhere.

Local to me in Romford is Allen and Hall, ex MG Rover. Used them a few times for MOT and small work. Like their friendliness and abilities. Family owned and it shows.

My a/c works well, but the fan struggles because the fins have almost gone. I wonder what it costs to have one fitted with a new item?

Yes, I know British Legends and have been there for other stuff. Very good. Not sure why I had not thought of them for my aircon issue. I guess I thought it would be very specialist.

See here - https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...ondenser+price.

Prices seem to vary from £200 - £300, depending upon level of DIY you do.

Harry you can fit it yourself. I paid £69.99 for a new aircon radiator. I am having it checked for leaks and hopefully regased this Sunday at my home. . I don’t think the rad will show a leak because when I released the bung that was kepping the dirt out, it popped off into the back of beyond with quite some force. That was a week after it had been delivered.

Remember if there is gas in the system it’s illegal to vent it to the atmosphere if you are changing your own condenser ;)

You are correct. I pushed the valve down on the low pressure pipe and there was about five seconds and it had gone. The same or even less for the high pressure pipe. Nothing in the system hardly. Hope the pump is still ok. As I say, I will find out tomorrow. I have been told that new condenser’s are tested for leaks with nitrogen gas, so no problems with that.

Had mine done today by a guy in Aveley. Seemed very thorough and knowledgeably.
Only charges £40 and includes a pressure and leak test. His number if you are interested is 07448 694301.

Aircon done today at British Legends, nr Southend airport.
Report was that it did just need the recharge, tests revealed no leaks.
Good service from them as always.
