Announcing The 27th Owners Club National Meet

on Sunday 24th March 2019

The Club's 27th National Meet will be held on
Sunday 24th March 2019
at
Fleet Air Arm Museum
RNAS Yeovilton
Ilchester
Somerset
BA22 8HT

10:00am - 4:30pm

The Fleet Air Arm Museum is devoted to the history of British naval aviation.
It has an extensive collection of military and civilian aircraft,
aero engines, models of aircraft and Royal Navy ships (especially aircraft carriers),
and paintings and drawings related to naval aviation.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4902/...c825a6c5_z.jpg

Hall 1 contains a display about the development of naval aviation
from the early days of airships and fabric-covered wooden biplanes
to modern jet aircraft and helicopters

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4910/...2895546b_z.jpg

Hall 2 is mainly devoted to the Second World War, with a side room
featuring a Kamikaze exhibit, which contains models of Japanese
aircraft and final letters from Kamikaze pilots. Two aircraft from
the Korean War are also displayed.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4899/...406bb726_z.jpg

Hall 3 has been converted into a mock-up of the fleet carrier HMS Ark Royal
as it would have appeared in the 1970s. The entrance to this hall is by a
simulated helicopter ride from Hall 2. The hall itself is a simulation of a
section of the flight deck of HMS Ark Royal
and aircraft are displayed as if they are on the deck.

In Hall 4 you'll find amongst other exhibits the second Concorde
to fly and the first British built example. It was flown to Yeovilton
on March 1976 and opened to the public in July of that year.
It has been on display ever since.

The museum has a well appointed cafe called the
Swordfish Restaurant where you can buy hot meals,
pastries, hot drinks and snacks

Grille Badges, Key Rings, Calendars and other club shop items
will be available to purchase on the day also.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4882/...8d7bc11e_z.jpg

OVP the club car will be on display if you want to come and see it in the flesh too
and we will be presenting the 2nd Windrush Award for the best car in show
as voted for by those attending

Update

Operation and trial without catheter successful, great to be without one after 20 weeks, so I'll definitely be there!

Going to give the Practical Classics Show a miss this year so I've booked the Premier Inn for Saturday night and I'm going to take in Haynes on the way down to the hotel during the afternoon, if there's going to be a run out to Haynes let me know what time you'll be there and I'll try to meet up.

Legs still swollen but I've just started my medication and should be back to virtually 100% in the next few weeks.

i still have my 75 and it will be doing stuff , but life gets in the way at times to any car events be they ROVER or MG or ..... but we plan to keep our cars going as long as we can , Bevs health at times can be a factor but we hope that it will be more stable in future . at some point soon plan to get the 75 paint work looked at , had planed last year but the MGF being hit by a BMW did rather mess up that idea as got that done along with the repairs ..... so a car saved from the scarp yard :}. fair to say i have spent a lot on the 75 over the years soon not planing letting it go even its a CDTI .. and i hope it will be at 75 events both here and in euroland ... :}

Not really missed anything.
For a couple of years I've been promising myself that I would get back to watching some motorsport and 2019 sees a young relative of my wife take part in a major British motorcycling championship so we've decided to have a break from 75 and ZT events and spend some time following his on track exploits.
Of course there's the Netherlands trip in September and the IOW weekend in December and we're looking forward to both of those events. But 2019 is probably the end for me as far as organising any club gatherings although we will no doubt still get to few meets in the future.
See you in a couple of weeks.
Cheers Ian

There is a hand car wash in Ilchester opposite the Texaco fuel station. I haven't used it myself but have heard from colleagues that it is very good.

That’s great and I’ve added you to the list :}

Just to let you know, the discounted pre pay club tickets of £10 must be bought by this Wednesday, after that anyone who wants a ticket to get into the museum will have to pay full price (£16.00 per person) at the museum box office on the day.

You and your car could get on film

I've just had a call from John Clancy who is in the process of producing a new DVD all about the Rover 75, and he's bringing his cameras to the National on Sunday

John in association with AR On-line has been researching the idea of a new documentary about the R40 for some time and it is now in the process of becoming a reality. See this article from AR On-line :smilie_re: R40 DVD Gets The Green Light.

He wants to film our members cars and perhaps interview a few owners about their cherished chariots, so if you'd like to possibly feature in the DVD, why not give your car an extra polish and don't be shy if he comes up to you for a chat, you never know :cool2:

Here is a taste of John's work on youtube

FLYING BANANA 19th March 2019 22:13

John came to our stand at last years NEC and spoke to Tim and myself about doing the film.
And he is a neighbour of mine here in Cornwall.

Pity Banana will not be out of the paint shop.

He said, he’d seen the Banana in the paint shop, one that he has used himself in the past, so I have no doubt your yellow one will end up in the DVD at some point Bob

Which car are you bringing this time? Pooky or Red?

Be bringing the Bear on Sunday. Be travelling up with the Southwest Crowd.
Redfive is flying the flag on Saturday with the MGOC at Lands End.

A shame Banana won't be ready for the National. Will she be coming to Clandon this year? Really can't wait to see her after the bodyshop have worked their magic :drool4:.

Hello Eric
Reebs has seen this and replied via PM.
I won't be at the dinner on Saturday but I'm sure that someone who is attending will see this and add an extra chair for your friend.
I look forward to meeting you both and having a chat on Sunday.
Best regards Ian

Hi fellas, I'm late to the party as usual, is it too late to join in on this?

Do I pay £16 per person on the gate to get in, as I've missed the cut-off date.

There will most probably be me +2 if all goes to plan.

Emergency problem - please call me

Hi,
I arrived 2 h ago in England. I have a technical engine problem. In urgency, my cranckshaft pulley has to be changed. Part number is LHG1000750 . It seems nobody in the region of Maidstone, where I am now (I am at Maidstone Services on M20) can help me. Which garage can help me. It seems to be a job of 2 till 3 hours. Can someone phone me for help. Or text me on my mobile, then I will call back. My mobile number is +32/475/76.18.92. Help is much appreciated.
Best regards,
Eric

Eric, see Peters last message and could you get recovered to Yeovilton?
Good luck.

Ian G 23rd March 2019 12:23

OK
I've spoken to Ceedy the parts are available but it's no small job to change it without airgun or 3/4 drive and 4 foot bar then belt etc if we come against a problem on at a meet on Sunday where do we go from there not that I've ever done one
Apparently you can still drive it so if Eric is at Maidstone his best bet would probably be to try to return home.
Yes getting it repaired can be done of course but I suspect it would mean a stay of a couple of extra days in the UK.
Ian
