The leak is back!
After bridging the coolant hoses, my 2.5l has been bone dry for about 6 weeks. Yesterday I arrived from work (only a 15min journey), I arrived with a temp of 107 and water pouring out underneath. Ive just filled the coolant with water this morning and I think I can see drips of water leaking from behind a pulley by the oil filter. Is this the dreaded water pump? How easy is it to replace? Any help would be appreciated!!

Don't assume that just because that's where the water is dripping from that that's its point of origin. It will follow the path of least resistance in a downward direction. Start at the highest point on the cooling circuit and work your way down keeping an eye out for the tell-tale pink stains. A nice bright torch and a dentist's mirror are very useful.

The Vis bone dry at both ends so I don't think it's dropping that high. I'll take the wheel and liner off on my next day off, but I'm not too familiar with what's around there.

Does anyone have a diagram of the cooling system on the 2.5l engine? It might help me work out where the leak is coming from

The main parts from where the V6 leaks are
The thermostat, the thermostat, the thermostat and- er well, the thermostat! Then there is: Waterpump, look around the pulley Inlet manifolds, look at outer spark plugs, hesitation on start, wet on corners Two metal pipes, always in the bends, check carefully, starts with tiny holes! Expansion cap, difficult to see. Any leaks, usually plastic part or edge of radiator where aluminium bonds with plastic Oil cooler, just a matter of time, inside or outside, check for mayo under oil filler cap for inside leaks. Cracks in expansion box. And there might well be others, that I have forgotten!:icon_rolleyes: |
Here's the culprit...... https://i1064.photobucket.com/albums...ps6z46fhnx.jpg

Sometimes a picture is worth a 1000 words.
At other times not quite. So water running off the block near the dipstick is not "a culprit". Where does it come from? You know, denial is not just a river in Egypt! |
