Swapping out interiors

Hi,

Sorry if this is the wrong spot to ask this question, I wasn't sure if it goes in the technical forum.

I have a 2003 Connie SE, which I have no intention of selling. One thing I have always disliked is the interior. I had a ZT which was written off in an accident.

I loved my ZT interior.

As per the title of the thread, has anyone ever done this kind of project?

It's very hard to find donor cars here. Currently, there are only 9 ZT\Rovers on the main Au car sales website.

The ZTs here never (or rarely) came with power seats, so that would be a roadblock.

If I can't find any here, I may look for a ZT interior in the UK.

If it's doable then I will assess the cost.

So I'd just like to hear from you guys as to the level of detail I need to know.

Pics would be good. :}

Thanks,

Rod

i got a whole trim out of a rover 75 with black leather seats etc and fitted them into my zt180. Now have power / heated ssats and alot more comfy.
As the zt interior was smoke stone, the black seats looked great.
Even changed the rover sunvisors with lighted mirrors from the rover.

By interior, I assume you mean the whole interior. Dashboard, door cards, centre console - everything. If that's the case bear in mind there is a reasonable chance you will introduce a whole load of squeeks and rattles that never used to be there.

I found it helps to sort the squeaks and rattles as you can cable tie items behind the dashboard with ease while it’s out.

Taking the carpet out is a pain , especially if it's wet !

Thank you all for the info.

As per the whole interior, I would probably see an upholsterer to do my door trims and whether they can take the existing trim (less the seats) and give it a darker colour.

I loved the dark interior of my ZT and that would be the perfect colour match. Or as one of you, lucky guys said, full black leather seats.

My ZT was Anthracite with the typical dark interior combo.

My 75 is Royal Blue, so I'd really love to match it with dark trim.

Given the lack of 75s here in Aus, I'd be hard-pressed to find a ZT for scrap and I have never seen a 75 for sale here with those leather seats.

So if I do this project, it won't be cheap to find seats in the UK, it will be a case of import/local.

But I have decided to keep my 75 and do something with it. She's been on some long journeys

UK
Victoria
South Australia
Queensland
New Zealand

and we're currently stranded in

Queensland (again)

It cost me more than she's worth to ship to New Zealand.

Then after 4 years in NZ, it came time to return to Australia.

I was at a point that I should sell in NZ and get nothing for it, but I needed all of my removals to coincide.

So I said no and paid for her shipping back to Australia.

For all that money, I thought I'd check out adding some life into her.

As many of you know they did a ZT 220s here by a local engineering company. If I go that far, I may look at putting that Sprintex Supercharger in. They are as rare as Rocking Horse doo doo, :dung: so I don't know how they fared doing the conversion.

Anyway,

thanks again and any feedback is great.

Rod

Had a ZTT station wagon over here in perth with a sprintex supercharger was for sale a while back but only issue is sprintex (a perth company) dont carry any parts for them anymore.
As for trim, there is the odd cars being wrecked still, triumph rover spares in South Australia has a few.

Thanks,

If I can gather enough info to make this doable, I'll follow up.

As a side note, I wonder how many 75/ZTs remain on the road in Au.

i know of at least 3 zts not counting mine over here and i reckon there is probably a few more out there still, i reckon at least 20 or 30 75s left over here.
Most of the secondhand ones go cheap and disappear to either collectors or somone looking for cheap wheels. These get driven into the ground and first sign of a repair get scrapped.
The odd ones come up but pretty rare over here now.
Never see any on the roads here anymore.
