Is it wise to have the engine bay steam cleaned. .....or will it effect the engine at all.:shrug::shrug:

As long as your wiring and connections / seals / gaskets are all ok then it should do nothing except remove grime..

You may want to re-grease brake lines etc after...

An engine doesn't need to be spotlessly clean. And in my opinion if it's running well it's better left alone innit. :}

Not just you - there are quite a few of us on here who like to keep their engine bays clean. I must admit, I personally wouldn't use a steam cleaner though - you can do a thorough job with some elbow grease and just a few products with far less risk. I used some quick detailer and a few old rags to get most of the dirt off, then some wire wool and Brasso to tackle the metal parts (air con pipes; alternator; engine mounts etc). Car wax for the paintwork, and some vinyl dressing for the plastic bits and it looks a treat. :D

Very satisfying work - but does lead to the odd scrapped knuckle or 2!

I have not had my engine bay steam cleaned, but by using various plastic cleaners, restorers and brasso metal polish I have got my engine bay looking like this.
