how to change rear speed abs sensor
are there any how to's on here to change one of these as i'v never done one and it failed mot on an intermitant fault with it.
thanks |
Haven't seen a 'How To' Steve but if you undo the holding bolt at the rear of the hub the sensor may pull out. Then it is just a case of unplugging and pulling out the connection to the loom - it sits under the rear seat upright.
If the sensor is seized in then jack up and secure the car on that side. Remove the roadwheel and then the brake caliper and brake disc. https://i.imgur.com/PjMRH8H.jpg?1 Knock off the grease cap and unstake the wheel bearing nut, remove it then pull off the flange with the bearing. You can then unbolt the sensor and hammer it out with a drift - it is just to the left of the stub axle in the photo. https://i.imgur.com/kA7P8YC.jpg?1 As Mr Haynes often says; refitting is the reverse of dismantling, be careful to clean any rust from the backplate, sensor mounting and hole before fitting the new sensor - if it doesn't locate far enough in and the air gap between it and the magnetic reluctor ring in the bearing is too big you can get problems at low speeds. Excessive rust on the back plate may damage the magnetic reluctor itself. Tightening torque settings are disc torx bolt 33NM, brake calliper to hub bolts 64NM, hub nut 210NM then staked and roadwheel bolts 125NM. https://i.imgur.com/IL4Onka.jpg?1 |
would i need to take the seat upright out or can i get to it without?
thanks, steve. |
On my saloon I just fold the seat forward and lift the trim at the base of the hinge.
If you haven't got a folding rear seat then go in from the boot and lift the trim behind the seat back. . |
no folding seat so i'l do that, who designed these damn cars? :xmas-smiley-008:

Hi Mike. Great photo how to, I am going to replace one of the rear ABS sensors either today or over the next couple of days so will also take a few photo's of how to remove the ABS sensor with a drift if the sensor will not pull out, therefore these pics will be helpful cheers Arctic. ;) |
Have fun Steve - my sensor needed a good seeing to with the lump hammer and drift to get it out. :D
If you want to make a full 'how to' feel free to use my photos if you want. |
the images are missing. can anyone tell me how to change the sensor?? do I need to remove the tyre??

Everything you need is there in text form, Mike Noc's advice is quite helpful.
Done this myself, but drilled mine out after following the texted steps. Regards |
NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- taking the bearing out to get at it..
Screw a wood screw well in and lever it out with a claw hammer... worked every time for me... |
