Robotic Vacuum Cleaners (Kind of a review)

So today I took delivery of a Neato D3 robotic vacuum cleaner, like a Roomba. It cost £250 and it's considered somewhere between budget and mid range, I did some research on them, I wanted one that was good on shallow carpet and this one did well so I took the plunge.

Honestly, it's blooming brilliant! It was dead easy to setup and I can control it through an app on my phone that means in theory I could tell it to clean the house when I'm not even there, it's not quite 100% perfect at coverage as it suffers at the edges but it does about 90% of the job, all I need to do is a quick run around the edges and it's done.

We have pets so this thing is an absolute god send, one the first run it filled up very quickly but this was expected as we suck at housework, now I can schedule it every day so it should stay on top of it. When the battery runs low it returns to base to charge and completes it later on, it hasn't gotten stuck yet.

Pros

Easy to set up
Easy to use, just tap the button on the unit or on the app
Easy to clean
Does a good job, if anything is missed just tell it to go out again
Fairly quiet, quieter than the outgoing cleaner
You can map out certain places for it to avoid
It doesn't annoy the dog

Cons

Bin fills up quickly
Doesn't get the edges
You need to keep on top of the brush cleaning
The filter that comes with it isn't the best, better ones available.

Overall I'm delighted, it's one of the best purchases I've ever made, if you have hard floor or shallow carpet I would highly recommend one.

One question - will the wife not get bored now that a key duty has been taken away?

In that case, you have bigger problems than vacuuming the floor to worry about. You need to re-establish who is the master in your household. :D;)

I do all the vacuum cleaning in my house.---:eek::eek:

I've just bought myself a Dirt Devil bagless cleaner.

It works really well in spite of having the now regulation 700 watt motor.

Single speed, no high or low. I was worried about the low speed but it works just as well as the now defunct 1,800 watt cleaner.---:D

Lots of other goodies with it too with a second really long hose to get those spider webs off the ceiling.

The rotary brush head is a marvel on dog hairs. Picks up the lot.----

I'll stick to my Henry (if you'll pardon the expression)
