Sticky fuel pump: but there is a Father Christmas
Went to town to have two new tyres - came back from killing time - car wouldn't start. All electrics seemed to work, car turned over, no firing. Stuck on tyre man's forecourt. For first time in 10 years rang RAC - was told may take four hours to get to you. BUT within 10 minutes RAC man turned up, plugged in his laptop - said fuel problem - bonnet up, tapped fuel pump. CAR STARTED. Said was "sticky pump". Hip hooray. Santa does exist.
Presumably could happen again at any time so I've just ordered new pump from DMGRS. (Mileage 138K: never failed to start before in 6 year's ownership). Dave |
Yep sounds like it is on the way out, so worth getting a replacement. Plugged a laptop in??? Just need your ears to diagnose that fault. :icon_lol:

Hi Dave.
You may need this thread in a few days time then unless a garage is fitting it for you. https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=241484 |

Steve: how kind as ever. Now we may be a bit backward down here in Zummerzet but I'm not aware of any garage open on Xmas Day. And anyway, who ever bought a R75 and belongs to this forum not having the challenge to tackle most jobs themselves? |
A complaint

But I have a complaint Steve. Please don't make it look so d . . . easy! Your usual excellent photos lulled me into near rhapsody, till I came to the bottom hose clip. Took me three quarters of an hour to undo that wretched clip. You need a very strong left hand - which at my advanced age poses difficulty. I eventually nudged it by squeezing a pointed tool into the folds of the clip, but I nearly gave up. I certainly didn't attempt to replace it but used a 12-14mm Jubilee, or whatever the design with the through nut and bolt is used.
Anyway to redeem yourself, I spotted this "breather? pipe" beneath it which has strands of fibre clinging to it, which leads me to believe there was once upon a time a hose leading somewhere. Have I dislodged something - please say no - or if not what's it for? https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...1&d=1609324841 Dave |

Nothing at all. The bended pipe/tube sitting top of the crankcase centre bottom. |
That pipe looks clean with a large end that would be for fitting inside a rubber pipe.---Do you have a loose pipe hidden away around there somewhere ??

Can't see an obvious one. Presume it's part of the emission control? |
