Could be a wiring issue as you are moving the harness every time you disconnect and reconnect the plug, if not then a bcu issue as you will be resetting g something each time you disconnect the plug....

They have never been rubber!!

I think the difference is that now the plastic is moulded in China and that will be inferior to the UK sourced raw materials.
