I must have started a little before you - my early memories of chasing the RAC round the Country include people like Ari Vatanan, Hannu Mikkola, Stig Blomqvist, Mr Cossack - Roger Albert Clark, Russell Brookes and Colin McRae's dad Jimmy.
You're right about the Stratos - you could hear it coming from miles away on a Winter's day in Kielder. Apparently, it was an absolute pig to drive - too short a wheelbase, which meant it swapped ends far too easily.
The nice part is that some of the cars can still be seen - Historic Rallying is a very popular branch of the sport nowadays -
