Might explain why I had such an almighty fight getting the bleedin' thing back in the plastic box after removing to check the VIN matched.
But surely it is better with the connectors at the top as they are further away in the event of the plenum blocking?

Mine certainly looked as if it was as it should be. The cables seem a perfect fit in their grommits on the side.
Maybe a previous owner turned it over for just such a reason as you suggest.
Apart from starting in drive it has certainly not caused a problem for the car in the 3 years i have owned it.
