My experience with oil seals blowing out is related to industrial gearboxes and pressure build up as it warms up and not being able to vent because of a blocked breather.
Thinking about this, if the car is low mileage, is it possible there is a sludge problem in the breather pipes, which as we know are very small bore, and in this weather, and standing around, oil sludging is a problem especially on cheaper semi-synthetic oils.
