The only way electric cars will work is when they have a 500 mile range in real world conditions and can be recharged in a short time.
Tesla's might be impressive things to drive but in real world conditions there range is 200 odd miles and they need at least 45 mins plugged in to travel another 125 miles.
Petrol hybrids are probably the sensible solution at the moment but I would want to see how long the batteries last before I splashed the cash on one. What good will it be when the batteries need replacing?
