Anyway, XPart and Rimmers are out of stock and they don't seem to hold any hope of getting any.
Fortunately, the car is still working fine at the moment, I'm just being a bit fussy. I've had many years of experience on automatics and just thought the change down was a little sluggish, but the car still accelerates well.
I'll take the car to the dealer in Norwich that Palwing has posted and see what they can do, including the fluid change.
The same questions and answers are coming up to those of a year or so ago though I must say that the discussion at that time finally decided that, for the modest cost, it was penny wise to change the fluid before 60,000 miles.
Ashcroft Transmissions were offering recon. Jatco boxes at £850 (not fitted) and were reported to be 'experts' on Jatco boxes. However, I phoned them to determine which fluid to use as the correct one was supposedly short and expensive. (In fact it was not short and not expensive at about £23/5litre from Xpart.) They recommended Castrol & we now know that this is DEFINATLY NOT the correct fluid for Jatco boxes. Correct and only fluid is Texaco N402. Rover part No. VYK00040 or Land Rover part No. LNR402
(I also contacted Castrol and have written confirmation from them that "We do not have a fluid suitable for the Jatco Box")
Maybe of interest is to repeat that only about 4.5 litres can be drained from the box ( of some 6.5 litres capacity) and is best drained warm/hot. The critical part on refilling is to fill to level hole. Run car at operating temperature then check level again.
All the fluid in the box when new is fresh. As it is impossible to drain and change all the fluid it follows that not all the fluid will be fresh. Longer life from the box MAY be achieved therefore from shorter fluid change intervals thereafter, obviously at the discretion of the owner http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ons/icon12.gif
