With the air-gap type of dielectric insulator rainwater can find its way into a TV/device via the gaps that run through the entire length of the cable's dielectric insulator. Had a couple of incidents of this with relatives TV's, one where the sealing cover for the connection box on the aerial was missing letting rainwater in.

Not sure what the dielectric insulator is? But the connector box on aerial is intact and the cover intact with a tight seal.
