I could be wrong Jon but I think Mike was suggesting just separating the hub from the outer end of the driveshaft in order to check the bearing independently in which case there wouldn't be any oil loss to worry about.

Yes Simon, that’s the way I took it from Mike and how the mechanic done it.
Anyway….he told me this morning that the bearing was totally siezed, so I guess that’s the problem identified!
New one now ordered locally.
