I don't know if it is the same for the Japanese models, but with ours, the phone mute signal is on pin 1 of the grey ISO plug, Red/Green cable, when it is connected to earth, it switches off the speakers and the radio displays 'Phone Mute'. Nothing to do with the K-Bus.

Could be a stray earth connecting to pin 1 (if it is the same as ours.)
