WORKAHOLIC, re your request about clearance. There is plenty around the large end on the Diesels but I Assume that you are now thinking of producing the barrel with your insert so that it just has to be pressed into the original mount? The small end doesn't fail anyway.
Your pic of the Mondeo mount isn't exactly useful since it has obviously been set alight.
