That's right; electrical load should not affect it. What engine have you got and what mileage have you done?

I had a similar problem, and ultimately it turned out to be the TPS (throttle position sensor), but clean the IAC (idle air control) valve first, which is simple to do. If that's OK put her on the testbook and see what fault codes come up. PO 122 is the TPS.
