New battery and wiper blades fitted. The none start was traced back to the fuel pump not working. Removed pump and stripped as far as I dare,clean the filter "bag" that was minging. Pump then powered up ok, refitted back in the tank and the car runs well again.
Note to self - dont park it up for 6 months if you want to keep your arms out of the tank
