From me little black book:
All 1.8 front springs have the same spring rate of 19.3 N/mm, but they have different fitted loads.
Green/yellow has a fitted load of 3458 N
Green/Brown has a fitted load of 3611 N
Green/Purple has a fitted load of 3764 N
The difference relates to the extras fitted to the car, such as air con, auto box, etc.
All the 1.8 use the same damper.

Recommendation:
New genuine MGR colour-coded springs are being sold on eBay by 'best_of_british_rover'
