If you want to try dissolving off the coating using a solvent, then as an organic chemist I'd suggest using cellulose paint thinner rather than an alcohol like IPA. However, the sooner this is done the better. Once the coating starts to cure, it will become ever more difficult and going back to square one more likely.

okay just checked and about half of the lens is dry to the touch but the other half still tacky, so i am happy just to go back to square one, for now many thanks for the help
