Just to clarify, I think we're talking about a "snap ring" like this aren't we?



Haynes and RAVE are using the wrong term.

I came across a snap ring when recently removing my outer CV joint from the driveshaft. I saw no reason to discard and replace this. It was in perfectly serviceable condition and keeping original parts is often the most sensible choice. So if your snap ring does the job Brian, let it continue to do so would be my advice.
