If the OEM connectors haven't otherwise been damaged the problem is an easy fix. The (usually) intermittant signal is due to the plug assembly being 'stretched' thro' the mobile nature of the seat geometry creating a minute make/break condition (termed 'fretting') and has a lot to do with the SRS wire routing - the AMP plugs are otherwise fine.
Search for MG Rover Group Technical Bulletin TB0133 that explains everything in detail (whilst your at it also take a look at TB0015 and TB0029 covering related issues)
