A crossover splits the frequencies for efficiency which results in improved sound quality. It's correct selection of the power capacity of the loudspeaker coil which provides the protection against damage.

I will let you try to educate the makers of the video on car stereo components, I am sure their business will improve with your input.
Before you do though, watch the entire video, it seems you have either misunderstood what the video is about or didnt watch it beyond one minute. Ignore the references to the active crossover and the digital signal processor.
The video is actually advice on adding a failsafe into a signal circuit of the drivers, in the event of the vehicle owner setting the incorrect values on an ACTIVE crossover. It is, in effect, a video on how to make part of a crude passive crossover
