The same happened to me this week. Can I ask had the filter separated? Mine had. After tightening the top and placing the clip it still did not start. Then I took the top off, noting first that there was no pressure in the fuel line and second that the seal was not visible. I fished the seal out of the bowl with a flat head screwdriver. It looked ok but I fitted a new one. Then the car started immediately. I know you have done this but if your fuel filter had definitely separated then might be worth rechecking all before looking for another fault?
