Sometimes, when I press the brakes, the pedal is rock hard, no servo assistance. It seems to happen more when the vehicle is cold, but not always. I cant hear any "hissing" noises that would suggest a vacuum leak or anything like that.
If anyone could give me some pointers as to where to start looking for the problem or likely cause that would be great.

Many years ago I had this on an old Vauxhall Viva. It turned out to be a knackered servo.
